A provincial park in Ontario.
Did you know Ontario has its own version of the Caribbean? Tucked away in a provincial park, this breathtaking beach destination has powdery sand shores and vibrant blue water that will whisk you away to the tropics.
You can spend the day lounging on the white sand, taking a dip in the sparkling waves and building sandcastles along the shore — no plane ticket needed.
According to Narcity readers, it's one of the best beaches in Canada, so it might be time to plan a summer road trip to this majestic destination.
Pancake Bay Provincial Park is a gorgeous summer gem located along the northeastern shores of Lake Superior.
It's home to a dreamy, 3.2 kilometre beach with "Caribbean-blue" water and sugary sand, making it a beautiful spot for a summer escape. It boasts a gentle dropoff and silky sand bottom that makes every dip in the lake feel like a tropical getaway.
The beach is tucked away in a sheltered bay with a secluded stretch of sand. The best times to visit are during July and August, when you can enjoy sunny skies and pleasant swimming temperatures. While Lake Superior is known for its cold water, the shallows at Pancake Bay are warm, making it the perfect spot for a beach day.
Aside from enjoying the park's "super blue Caribbean-style water," as described by Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, you can explore some of the surrounding trails and soak up the incredible scenery.
One of the most beautiful hikes to enjoy is the Edmund Fitzgeral Lookout trail, a stunning 3.5km route that offers a panoramic view of the entire region.
You can also stay overnight at the park's campsites, allowing you to gaze at the magical, star-filled skies and maybe even glimpse the Northern Lights.
With its beautiful blue waters, white sand shores and tropical vibes, it's no surprise readers say this beach is among the best in the country.
