Environment Canada and The Weather Network are advising Ontarians to take caution as a tornado warning has been issued for parts of the province for Wednesday, May 22.

Ontario's weather is also under severe thunderstorm warnings across parts of the southern and northern areas of the province as well as hazards of 120 km/h wind gusts and nickel-sized hail.

"A tornado warning has been issued in southern Ontario as a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong winds and a twister has been detected on radar," says TWN. "In addition to potentially producing a tornado and intense winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are possible."

According to Environment Canada, Orilia, Northern Kawartha Lakes and Bracebridge currently have a tornado warning while according to TWN, Orillia, Lagoon City, Washago, Fenelon Falls, Balsam Lake Park, Northern Kawartha Lakes, Bracebridge and Gravenhurst have a tornado warning.

Depending on where you are in the province will determine when severe weather will hit, but the overall time frame is expected to be this afternoon and into this evening.

"Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches," says TWN. "If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately."

If you do need to be outdoors, they advise that you stay close to shelter because if you can hear thunder that also means you can get struck by lightning.
