When it comes to non-essential travel outside of Canada, the federal government says one thing is very clear.

Sharing a reminder that all discretionary travel should be avoided, the post addressed “all #snowbirds!”

It’s a message that’s been repeated by the prime minister and Canada’s public health officials this winter, as some Canadians still choose to travel abroad.

Despite public health recommendations, there is no outright travel ban in place.

Several Canadian premiers have called on Justin Trudeau to tighten Canada’s travel restrictions ASAP, to prevent the further spread of new COVID-19 virus variants.

While the PM has promised that an announcement is coming in the next few days, he is yet to confirm exactly what an update will look like.

That said, he's pleaded with Canadians to cancel all upcoming vacations and warned that the rules are subject to change without any prior notice.
