There's A Stunning Lookout Hike Hidden Behind This BC Abbey

It only takes a few minutes to reach it. 🥾
Staff Writer

Do you love to keep up on all the latest news about The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge? If so, you would have seen the stunning photos of the church where they got married. But did you know B.C.'s Westminster Abbey has the same name? Even better, there's a hidden hike behind it where you can look out on a serene river valley.

To see our own Westminster Abbey for yourself, you'll need to head to Mission. The Pilgrim's Way walk is one hour and 15 minutes from Vancouver, and a leisurely afternoon road trip.

The well-maintained flat gravel trails spread between Heritage Park and the sprawling building where the Benedictine monks live.

You'll want to start at the park, and then begin going down the hillside following the winding trails.

The walk is remarkably easy and takes you under the canopy of giant trees. Even if you aren't an avid hiker, you should have no problem reaching a stunning view of the sparkling Fraser River and surrounding countryside.

Each way, it will take between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on which path you pick.

While in the area, you'll also want to take time to explore the Abbey Grounds. Even if you aren't religious, the majestic area is stunning to behold.

The breathtaking facility has tons of colourful stain glass windows and looks straight from Europe.

Depending on the season, you can also find different rainbow-coloured flowers blooming in the ornate gardens too.

The church grounds are free to visit daily, but guests need to leave by 4:45 p.m.

Meanwhile, if you want to step inside the tranquil building, it is open at set hours throughout the day from Monday to Sunday.

With the early closing time, it is best to aim to head here in the early afternoon to have time to savour everything before the short drive back home.
