Burnaby RCMP needs help identifying a man who assaulted a hardware store employee and damaged the store on May 8, 2021.

According to a police release, the man went into the store on 1 Avenue, just east of Boundary Road. He was asked by an employee why he wasn't wearing a mask.

He proceeded to attack the employee, punching them in the head and back even after they fell to the ground. Another employee tried to intervene, but the suspect allegedly threatened to kill them with a knife.

On his way out, he grabbed a pair of bolt cutters and used them to smash the front window of the business. In the parking lot, he charged at an employee more than once before driving off.

Police describe him as caucasian with a blonde buzz cut. "This was an unprovoked attack and very scary for everyone involved," says Corporal Mike Kalanj of the Burnaby RCMP. "Please help us identify this individual."
