Lead Writer, Travel

All aboard! You don't need a car in order to experience the magic of this Ontario town. Located a train trip away from Toronto, this destination is a dreamy winter wonderland with historic charm and storybook streets.

Brimming with shops, delicious restaurants and unique attractions, it's an enchanting spot to visit for a day trip or weekend getaway.

Stratford is a beautiful destination perched along the shores of the Avon River. It's renowned for its theatre festival which takes place from April to October each year.

While it is technically a city, Stratford exudes small town charm and will have you feeling like you're on a mini European vacation.

It's just over 2 hours from Toronto by VIA Rail, so you don't have to travel too far to enjoy this spot. The train station is located a short walk away from the downtown where you'll find charming boutiques, cute cafes and picturesque streets that make for an idyllic escape.

During the winter, Stratford transforms into a snowy wonderland with cozy vibes.

There are many snug cafes where you can warm up with a drink, such as The Livery Yard, The Ashborne Cafe and Balzac's Stratford.

Stratford also boasts a great restaurant scene, and you can find everything from Italian eateries to French bistros. You can indulge your sweet tooth along the Chocolate Trail, which takes you to "world-famous confectioners and bakers," according to the website.

If you love European charm, Stratford is the place to be. Named after Stratford on Avon in England, the destination is brimming with old-world architecture.

During the warmer months, you can enjoy the blooms at the Shakespearean Gardens or catch a show at the Stratford Festival.

If you're craving a day trip but don't have a car, this train trip to Stratford is worth experiencing.
