If you're looking for the best experience the next time you're flying out of Canada, look no further — three Canadian airports have been named among the best in North America, recognized for providing a top travel experience for passengers.

A new ranking has named the top airports in the country for customer satisfaction, cleanliness, and enjoyability, as well as the easiest airport in Canada for a top-notch departures experience.

Airports Council International World, the global trade representative of the world's airports, looked at the best airports around the globe as determined by passengers through its Airport Service Quality Awards.

According to ACI World, Toronto Pearson Airport ranks as the best airport in Canada with over 40 million passengers a year.

The airport ranked among the best in North America alongside two U.S. airports — Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in Dallas, Texas, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to ACI World, the award recognizes airports with the top 20 percent overall satisfaction score by size and region at departure.

However, Toronto Pearson wasn't the only Canadian airport to be awarded — two other Canadian airports were singled out for providing a positive experience for passengers flying out of the country.

Fort McMurray International Airport in Fort McMurray, Alberta, and Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, were both named as the top airports in North America with under 2 million passengers per year.

Fort McMurray Airport was also named the airport with the easiest journey, the most enjoyable airport, and the cleanest airport in Canada.

The small airport, located about 4 hours north of Edmonton, is home to just two airlines, Air Canada and WestJet, which operate flights to Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal, as well as aerial tour and charter company McMurray Aviation.

Best airports in the world

While Canadian airports won awards in several categories, some airports won awards in all the departure categories included, making for a "pleasant experience at every stage of the airport journey."

These airports are:

  • Africa: Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport, Casablanca, Morocco
  • Asia-Pacific: Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, Makassar, Indonesia; Yogyakarta International Airport, Yogyakarta, Indonesia
  • Europe: Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, İzmir, Turkey; Aeroporto di Roma-Fiumicino, Rome, Italy
  • Latin America: Guayaquil International Airport, Guayaquil, Ecuador
  • Middle East: Salalah Airport, Salalah, Oman
  • North America: Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, South Carolina, U.S.; Gerald R. Ford International Airport, Michigan, U.S.
