This dreamy beach town in Alberta will transport you to the coast, with a picturesque lighthouse, sandy beach, sailboats, and wide open water. The province isn't known for its coastal getaways, but you can feel like you're on a classic beach vacation in this Alberta small town.

It's known as the "best lake town" in the province and "Alberta's favourite beach town," not only for it's idyllic waterfront and coastal vibes, but also the lively town. Throughout the summer there's lots of events, and you can spend a trip exploring the little shops and restaurants when you're not out on the water.

The best part is that it's just outside of Calgary, about an hour-and-a-half drive away. It makes for the perfect weekend getaway in the summer or even a day trip if you just want to hit the beach for a bit.

A wholesome start to a weekend here is a visit to the Sylvan Lake Farmers' Market, which runs every Friday from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. throughout the summer. There you'll find local goodies and fresh produce to try out.

Then you can head to Lakeshore Drive here to take your pick of restaurants. This street not only has a cute name fitting the whole vibe of the town, but is also bustling with local spots and patios.

The real draw here, of course, is the lake — so Saturday here is all about soaking up the sun. The sandy beach here is perfect for laying out all day on, dipping in and out of the water, taking in the views, and catching up on reading (and napping).

If you've got a bit more energy then you can head out onto the water by kayaking, boating, paddleboarding, or just floating — you name it. SunSport Recreation is a go-to for rentals in town.

As for stays you can pick from the local accommodations or opt to sleep under the stars at the campsites here. That way you can end the day with a bonfire and roasted marshmallows, and wake up to the calm of the lake.

Sunday mornings call for grabbing a cup of coffee and walking along the scenic waterfront pathway in town, soaking in the last of the views before heading home.
