Just a day trip away from Calgary is this Alberta small town with glimmering lakes, mountain views, and quaint streets. This summer could be all about lake swims, hikes to hidden waterfalls, and exploring local boutiques – if you go to this mountain town.

Recently Canadians on the Narcity Facebook Page shared where the best summer vacation spots in the country are, and Jasper, Albert was a highlight.

Banff usually gets most of the attention, but Jasper offers a more low-key spot with less crowds and equally stunning scenery. Driving from Calgary you'll also go right through Banff, so it's kind of a two-in-one summer vacation.

While the snowy peaks of winter offer their own beauty, when the cold fades away and the sun comes out — Jasper comes alive.

The little town is cozy, and framed by picturesque mountains that make you feel like you've stepped into a postcard.

The real intrigue here though is the great outdoors. Beautiful hiking trails here can lead you to incredible views, scenic lakes, hidden wonders, and deep into the lush forest.

A go-to here is the Maligne Canyon, which you can take a half day tour of if you want. Here you can wander over bridges that wind you through stunning parts of the canyon — seeing everything from ancient fossils to booming waterfalls.

There's lots of tours throughout the area to other magical scenes too — like Spirit Island's boat cruise. Spirit Island is a picturesque land formation, sitting in the bright waters of Maligne Lake.

If you want to take in the views from a different perspective without hiking, you can hop on the "longest and highest guided aerial tramway in Canada" — the Jasper Skytram.

With the summer heat you can beat cooling down in a lake, and luckily there's a few choices in town. Lake Annette is a popular one, with picnic tables made for lakeside picnics.

After long days exploring you can wind down in town, visiting the locals restaurants and breweries in town.

If you want a summer trip full of beauty and adventure, this is the spot to go to.
