There's officially going to be an IKEA downtown Toronto location and it will be the first-ever to open in the heart of the city.

IKEA Canada told Narcity that it will be located at 382 Yonge St. on the northwest corner of Yonge and Gerrard and will be a smaller format store.

IKEA Toronto Downtown will be the fifth store in the GTA and will be in addition to locations in Burlington, Etobicoke, North York and Vaughan.

The smaller, urban store format has been introduced in cities around the world like Paris, Shanghai, Moscow and Queens, New York.

They're meant to allow people in cities to have easier access to classic IKEA items.

How is this location different from other IKEA stores?

IKEA Toronto Downtown will span over 66,000 square feet across two floors and will feature more than 2,000 products.

You'll be able to buy items and take them home right from the store just like you would at a standard IKEA.

Larger furniture pieces will be on display but they'll be available for home delivery only.

There will also be a unique new food experience.

This new location is set to open in late 2021 or early 2022.
