In comparison, Death Valley is forecasted to reach a high of 119 degrees today.

The heat advisory is in effect for southwest and west-central Florida, from noon to 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service reports that the dangerously high heat index values are a result of a combination of hot temperatures and increased tropical moisture.
