Residents are currently experiencing severe flooding in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. 

North Carolina Highway 12 is reportedly still closed in the Rodanthe and Ocracoke areas due to "water and deep sand on several portions of roadway," according to the official Facebook page.

When high tide hit Sunday night, the already-high water levels in the OBX reached shocking heights. 

As a result, the highway has been further flooded with sand and saltwater, and upcoming high tides threaten to worsen the situation

Residents and visitors likely won't be able to use the whole roadway again until Tuesday, September 22 after cleanup.
