You might want to grab your snow boots and shovels tonight as Ontario's weather forecast is about to get messy.

According to The Weather Network, parts of the province could be slammed with up to 20 centimetres of snow by Friday, and it's only the tip of the iceberg.

Spots in eastern Ontario, including Ottawa, will see the most amount of accumulation.

However, areas in the GTA are also expected to get around 2 centimetres of the white stuff.

The weekend will be equally as messy, bringing flurries and gusty winds to most of southern Ontario.

On the bright side, temperatures won't be freezing, with daytime highs in Toronto expected to reach 3 C on Saturday.

This pattern is expected to continue until the end of the month.

"The end of January will bring a higher potential for more typical wintry weather, however, there are no extended periods of frigid weather in sight," states Doug Gillham, TWN meteorologist.

"The pattern will become more active with the potential for messy winter storms," he added.
