It's hiking time! If you're looking for a beautiful spot for a stroll without going too far from the city, this picturesque conservation area near Toronto is worth a visit.

Located about 30 minutes from the city, this "environmental gem" features several beautiful trails including a boardwalk which twists through stunning landscapes. It's also home to the "last remaining lakefront marsh of its kind between Toronto and Burlington."

You can even discover a rare cobblestone beach as you venture through the area.

Rattray Marsh Conservation Area in Mississauga will totally immerse you in nature and is a quick trip from Toronto. You can wander along elevated boardwalks and spot wildlife such as rabbits, beavers and deer.

One of the highlights of the area is the cobble beach, which can be found just off the Waterfront Trail. These kinds of beaches are recognized as globally rare and are formed as rocks are propelled from the water onto the shore.

As time passes, these rocks become flat and round, creating a unique spectacle.

Sometimes, the cobble beach acts as a barrier between the marsh and lake when waves or wind cause rocks to pile up. During rain events and the spring melt, this barrier can open up, so depending on the weather and the season, you might see it wide open or closed off.

There are several other picturesque trails to explore within the conservation area, including the Knoll Trail and the Silver Maple Lane Trail.

Before you head out, it's a good idea to check the latest updates about Rattray Marsh Conservation Area on the website.
