This incredible group of islands in Canada was just named one of the best places to travel to in 2025, in a recent ranking by National Geographic.

The acclaimed publication put B.C.'s Haida Gwaii on its shortlist of 25 destinations, highlighting its beauty, culture, and nature.

The National Geographic ranking said that "Haida Gwaii—the ancestral home of the Indigenous Haida people—comprises some 150 misty islands along the coast of British Columbia."

If you want to experience something truly unique you can visit The Ocean House, on the northern end of Graham Island, which is set to re-open later this year.

"Once opened, lodge activities will include roaming nearby Naikoon Provincial Park, spotting humpbacks and dolphins on whale-watching excursions, and meeting Haida artists in the village of Old Massett, where towering totem poles honor and preserve Haida traditions," the ranking said.

The group of islands that make up Haida Gwaii are nicknamed "Canada’s Galapagos," thanks to the diverse animal and plant life there.

Exploring the archipelago involves learning about its rich history, walking into spectacular rainforests, strolling along sandy beaches and diving into clear blue waters.

To get there you can take a ferry from Prince Rupert, which is a long but beautiful eight-hour journey. Ferries connect the island communities to the mainland, and you can explore the local shops, heritage sites, and businesses at each.

There are also flight options to Haida Gwaii.

Before travelling to this breathtaking place you can review the Haida Gwaii Visitor Orientation, sign the Haida Gwaii Visitor Pledge, and make sure to travel responsibly.
