Playland is opening this week and there's a lot to be excited about for the 2024 season.

The Vancouver amusement park has over 40 rides and attractions and this year thrill-seekers can try out an epic new roller coaster.

Playland at the PNE is set to open for select days beginning on May 18 and it's a sign that summer is just around the corner.

This year the star of the show will be the amusement park's newest roller coaster called ThunderVolt.

This new ride carries 12 passengers at a time through a "supernatural environment with extraordinary animals, graphics and lighting that pulses as the ride system charges, leading up to its launch," according to the PNE website.

The three-car train then blasts off through an illuminated tunnel and up a steep incline before it drops 18 metres.

The ride, which will become Canada's fastest electric launch coaster, is set to open sometime in July.

Along with rides the park also has midway games, and unique attractions like the Haunted Mansion and Sweet Escape Mini Golf.

The park will be open on select days in May and June from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and select Saturday evenings in June. The park will then be open Wednesday to Sunday in July and August from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and select Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Aside from Playland, the amusement park hosts other exciting events throughout the year like the PNE Fair, the Summer Night Concert series, Fright Nights and the Winter Fair.

So now that you know PNE is back soon, it's time to start planning your first trip to Vancouver's amusement park!
