Frost Advisories Were Issued In 3 Different Provinces & Some Temperatures Are Below Zero

Goodbye summer! ❄️
Contributor

It's a chilly one out there. The government has issued multiple frost advisories in Canada as temperatures dip. In some cases, it's getting down below zero.

Environment Canada's weather statements are in effect for three provinces: Newfoundland, New Brunswick and Ontario

In Newfoundland, the entire centre of the island is under these warnings except for the northern peninsula and the southeast region, so St. John's should be spared.

In some areas, like Terra Nova, Environment Canada warns that the minimum temperatures are anywhere from -1 to 4 C. That's brisk!

New Brunswick only has 3 areas that aren't getting frosty tonight, so the majority of the province should brace themselves.

Ontario is a bit luckier. Only a few regions in the central part of the province have the advisories in place. Those are Algonquin, Haliburton, Burk's Falls - Bayfield Inlet, and Renfrew - Pembroke - Barry's Bay.

Each weather statement warns that frost could hit the respective area tonight and into Saturday morning as the temperatures dip. A true sign that summer is coming to end.

It is also bad news for any garden enthusiasts.

According to one of the weather statements "frost advisories are issued when temperatures are expected to reach the freezing mark during the growing season, leading to potential damage and destruction to plants and crops."

So if you're a farmer or have started a backyard garden as a hobby recently you'll want to cover up your plants so they don't get ruined.

Environment Canada says to take special preventative measures with any trees or plants that are especially frost-sensitive. That includes "tender plants" like avocados or succulents, so you'll want to bring them inside tonight if possible.

Frost is never fun, but it's also not the worst wintery weather the country has seen lately.

Parts of Alberta woke up to a sprinkling of snow recently, despite it officially still being summer.
