Vancouver's Weather Is Bringing 'Unusually Cold Temperatures' & 90 km/h Winds For Some Areas
Time to bundle up!
Vancouver's weather is about to shift back into winter, with cold temperatures and strong winds expected.
A special weather statement from Environment Canada has said that Metro Vancouver will see "a period of unusually cold temperatures and strong outflow winds."
Environment Canada says an Arctic air mass is in place over B.C., creating these super-cold temperatures.
Temperatures are forecast to be -5 to -10, with wind chill values as low as -15, with the coldest temperatures happening during the Tuesday overnight period into Wednesday.
The special weather statement is in effect for the following areas:
- Metro Vancouver - central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
- Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
- Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
- Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley
- Metro Vancouver - southwest including Richmond and Delta
You can expect the freezing temperatures to last through Tuesday until Wednesday night, so if you had any outdoor plans in the next couple of days, don't forget your mittens and toque.
The cold temperatures are not only affecting Vancouver but many other parts of B.C. as well.
A wind warning is in effect for Howe Sound as wind gusts with speeds of up to 90 km/h are set to batter the region.
"Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break," the warning said.
After this Arctic air mass is through, the special weather statement said that you can expect to see a "warming trend" beginning as early as Thursday.
