Videos Of The Coastal GasLink 'Attack' In BC Were Released & People Were 'Armed With Axes'

The videos appears to show people "swinging axes, spray painting and setting off flare guns."

The RCMP released three videos where it appears several people are attacking a Coastal GasLink worksite in B.C. — with some wielding axes.

The police are trying to identify the suspects in the videos, who allegedly attacked the pipeline construction site on February 17.

Police said in a release on February 17 that "shortly after midnight, Houston RCMP was called to the Marten Forest Service Road after Coastal GasLink security reported acts of violence at their work site."

There were around 20 people who were allegedly attacking security guards and vehicles — some of them armed with axes, police say.

Police said that although there were reports of some employees of CGL being trapped, everyone made it out safely.

One police officer was injured, though, after attending a roadway on the camp that had been blocked with "downed trees, tar covered stumps, wire, boards with spikes in them." There were reportedly even fires that had been lit in the debris.

While attending to the roadblock, the RCMP report says several people threw smoke bombs and fire lit sticks at the police, injuring one officer.

Authorities also found heavy machinery in one area of the camp that was damaged, and said that "the cost of damage done is extensive."

Chief Superintendent Warren Brown said, "This is a very troubling escalation in violent criminal activity that could have resulted in serious injury or death. This was a calculated and organized violent attack that left its victims shaken and a multimillion dollar path of destruction."

"While we respect everyone’s right to peacefully protest in Canada, we cannot tolerate this type of extreme violence and intimidation. Our investigators will work tirelessly to identify the culprits and hold them accountable for their actions," Brown added.

On February 22, police released another statement along with three videos, in an effort to identify the suspects of the alleged attack on the CGL camp near Houston.

Police said that the video footage shows "several people, some armed with axes, storm the property and attack a company vehicle while an employee was inside the truck."

They added that the suspects were all dressed similarly, and "swung axes at the vehicle, spray painted the window and ignited what is suspected to be a flare gun."

The first video shows two people approaching a vehicle holding axes.

The second video released also shows two people walking to a truck with axes. In the video, one of them appears to be hitting the truck.

The third video shows people who are all also dressed similarly. One person has some kind of strobe light, and it appears someone is spray painting the window of the vehicle, followed by the flashes of what looks like a flare gun being lit.

Houston RCMP encouraged anyone with information to contact them at 250-845-2204.
