Ontario's Licence Plate Stickers Are Going To Be Gone For Good & Here's When

The province will also be giving out refunds!

Car owners will be happy to know they'll be saving some money soon, as Ontario licence plate stickers are officially going to be a thing of the past.

Starting March 13, passenger vehicles, motorcycles, light-duty trucks and mopeds, won't have to have a licence plate sticker. Snowmobiles and heavy commercial vehicles, however, won't have a change to their licence plate stickers.

On top of that, the Ontario government will be giving out refunds for licence plate renewal fees.

"Eliminating the fee to renew your licence plate and refunding the cost of doing so for the past two years is a concrete way we can put and keep more money in the pockets of hard-working Ontarians," Premier Doug Ford said.

Before this, motorists in southern Ontario had to cough up $120 a year, while drivers in northern Ontario shelled out $60 each year to get their licence plate stickers renewed.

"This is just another step we're taking to make life more affordable," Ford said during a February 22 press conference.

The Ford government has been working hard to make things easier for drivers in Ontario.

As of April 5, Ontarians who avoided Highways 412 and 418 because of tolls will be able to hit the roads without paying any fees (though drivers will still need to pay to use the Highway 407 express toll route.)

The government also announced that it is funding the Bradford Bypass and expanding Highway 413 to make travel easier for drivers.
