11 Photos From The 2021 G7 Summit That Show World Leaders Being Really, Really Weird

Why are they always waving?

Managing Editor, Canada

After several days of discussions, meetings, press conferences and awkward photo opportunities, the 2021 G7 leaders' summit has come to an end.

Held from June 11 to 13, the multi-day event brought world leaders together, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, President Joe Biden, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, among others.

While the aim of the summit was to discuss global issues like the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change, it seems there were also plenty of opportunities to snap the world leaders being really, really weird.

"America's Next Top Model"

When the world leaders joined one another on stage to take this photo, they perhaps didn't realize it would go viral for all the wrong reasons.

Within hours of being posted, this super awkward image took over the internet and was turned into memes, with Twitter users joking that it looked like a scene from America's Next Top Model, The Avengers or even The Bachelor.

Extreme waving

You can't fault U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson's efforts to be enthusiastic here, but this wave is totally over the top and totally weird. Put your arm down, Boris!

Confused Trudeau

Who knows what was going through Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's mind here, but it's definitely unlucky that a photographer was there to capture this very bizarre moment.

Happy faces

This was the world leaders' reaction to the U.K.'s Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team's show during the summit. It's pretty sweet, actually.

Laugh-out-loud

It seems Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Justin Trudeau have the same unusual "finger up" pose. Clearly, PM Johnson thinks it's hilarious.

Elbows out, thumbs up

This duo clearly activated dad-mode for this extremely awkward photo. What makes it even more peculiar is their respective partners stood at the side watching on. Yikes.

Uncle Biden & Uncle Bo'Jo

Why do Biden and Johnson look just like your uncles at the family Christmas party?!

Bromance

Who needs personal space, anyway? PM Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron appear to be gazing very deeply and lovingly into each other's eyes here. Cute, eh?

Taxi!

It's possible that PM Johnson was hailing a cab from the runway of the airport here, but it does seem unlikely.

Posture is everything

Both the queen and Joe Biden look pretty stiff and uncomfortable in this photo. It's not normal to stand like that, Joe.

Thumb VS fist

While PM Boris Johnson has opted for a classic thumbs-up pose (yet again), PM Justin Trudeau appears to have positioned his free hand into a clenched fist. Oops.
